PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CMC) — Haiti police say a United States national was gunned down “in a deliberate assassination” by several unidentified gunmen as he was about to enter his vehicle here over the weekend.

The police said that the incident occurred in Pétion-ville, a commune and suburb east of Port-au-Prince, and that a Haitian resident was also shot in the attack on Saturday night.

Police said the unidentified Haitian, who has since been hospitalised, is assisting their investigations. They said no one has yet been arrested in relation to the murder of the US citizen who is also unidentified.

The US Embassy here said it was aware of the event but had no comment to make because of the investigation and US privacy rules.

Police said they recovered several bullet casings for two different guns at the scene.
