UTech launches second annual Math Quiz Competition

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) through its School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science and Sport will tomorrow (November 17) launch its second annual Mathematics Quiz Competition.

The opening ceremony for the competition, staged under the theme, 'Making Mathematics the Choice of the New Generation', will be held starting at 10:00 am at Lecture Theatre 50 located at the Shared Facilities Building at the UTech Papine Campus, the university said in a release.

The UTech Mathematics Quiz Competition seeks to promote the importance and to develop the awareness of mathematics as a tool for problem solving across disciplines and to generate a deeper appreciation for Mathematics among students at the secondary level in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, the university said.

The preliminary round of the competition will see participation from high schools from across the island compete in matches consisting of multiple choice and structured questions throughout the day.

Glenmuir High School won the inaugural UTech, Jamaica Mathematics Quiz Competition in November 2017.
