KINGSTON, Jamaica — The number of unemployed in Jamaica increased by 2,700 in April compared to January, according to data from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN).
Unemployed people numbered 179,900 in April, a one and a half per cent increase compared to 177,200 at the start of the year.
The unemployment rate now stands at 14.3 per cent.
The group with the largest decline is Service Workers and Shop and Market Sales with 8,400 people.
Professional, Senior Officials and Technicians had the biggest increase moving 235,800 in April, an increase of 12,000.
