Vernamfield race-meet postponed

Sunday, September 30, 2012

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Motor-racing fans will have to wait until next Sunday to see former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell, as well as their favourite drag and tarmac sprinters, as today"s meet at Vernamfield in Clarendon has been postponed.

According to the event’s organisers, the decision is as a result of inclement weather.

“After yesterday’s [Saturday’s] torrential downpour, the parking lot is now flooded and the tractor is having a challenge clearing it. With the forecast for continued rain islandwide and a flash flood warning in effect, we think this is the best choice,” Dean Corrodus, outgoing Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club chairman told the Jamaica Observer.
