KINGSTON, Jamaica — West Indies edged day one of the second Test match at Sabina Park and reached 11 without loss after bowling out New Zealand for 260 yesterday.

Kieran Powell, on 10 not out, and Christopher Gayle, unbeaten on one, are set to resume for West Indies when play starts today at 10:00 am.

Earlier West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to send the tourists in to take first strike and the ploy seemed to work as two wickets fell within the first six overs.

BJ Watling was dismissed by pacer Kemar Roach, while Brendon McCallum fell to Tino Best before Guptill and captain Ross Taylor put together a century stand for the third wicket.

Taylor was eventually caught by wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin off the bowling of speedster Tino Best for 60.

Guptill batted solidly and patiently before he was smartly run out by Best for 71.

Thereafter New Zealand suffered a collapse as Roach, Best and part-time spinner Narsingh Deonarine swept through the rest of the batting.

Roach finished with 4-70.

Scores: New Zealand 260 (82.5 overs); West Indies 11-0 (after 5 overs).
