Warmington must go — Opposition

Says Golding's silence deafening

Jamaica Observer

Monday, August 23, 2010

THE opposition People's National Party is calling on Prime Minister Bruce Golding to dismiss member of parliament for South West St Catherine Everald Warmington, as chairman of the Constituency Development Fund Committee of Parliament and as Minister of State in the Ministry of Water and Housing.

Opposition Spokesman on Local Government and Community Development, Colin Fagan, said Warmington should step aside while the Contractor General continues his investigations into allegations that contracts were awarded to an entity allegedly connected to him from the St Catherine Parish Council.

Fagan said Golding must break what the PNP termed his deafening silence on the matter.

"The Party is satisfied that the Prime Minister would by now be sufficiently briefed on the matter since coming home from his trip abroad and is shocked that he has not uttered a single word on the matter," said Fagan.

Fagan also called for a probe into the dealings of all Parish Councils.

He accused Golding of hoping the matter would quietly go away.
