KINGSTON, Jamaica — Newly elected Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern Ann Marie Vaz was sworn in on Tuesday during the sitting of the House of Representatives, where she was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Andrew Holness as well as other Members of Parliament on both sides of the House.

On the crime scene, a man was beaten and burnt beyond recognition in the community of Sterling Castle Heights, St Andrew Wednesday afternoon, allegedly in connection with the death of eight-year-old Shantae Skyers this week.

The body of Shantae, who had gone missing after leaving school on Thursday, April 11, was found amongst rubble in an area known as Blue Hole in the community on Tuesday.

A day later, two people were taken into custody for questioning by police investigators in relation to her murder.

In sport, former president of the West Indies cricket board Patrick “Pat” Rousseau died on Tuesday at age 85 after prolonged illness.
