KINGSTON, Jamaica — One of two women who were mowed down by a police vehicle on July 23 along Penwood Road in Kingston has died.

The dead woman has been identified as Ann-Marie Newman, 48.

Reports are that Ms Newman and her friend Rosemarie Williams, 52, a vendor, were sitting by a stall at the roadside when the incident occurred.

"The police vehicle, we see it a speed come round the corner and slam in the wall where the two women sat," said a man at the time, claiming to be an eyewitness.

Residents and family members said that Newman’s leg was crushed in the incident.

"I go look on Annie and doctor say it look like she ago lose her foot," a family member of Newman said then.

According to family members Newman has been admitted in hospital since.

"She died in hospital a few days ago," a source told the Observer Monday.

It is still not clear if the motor vehicle crash was the cause of her death.
