Weekly Round-Up: PM withdraws ATI extension... Louie Rankin dies... Girlz beat Cuba 12-1

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Thursday decided to withdraw the resolution to extend the waiting period for public access to Cabinet documents from 20 to 70 years.

The resolution, which was tabled on Tuesday, received strong backlash from media and civil society after which Holness withdrew the resolution, which was designed to amend the Access to Information Act.

Meanwhile, Jamaican deejay/actor Louie Rankin died after sustaining injuries in a motor vehicle accident on Highway 89 in Ontario, Canada, on Monday.

In sport, Jamaica's senior Reggae Girlz made a convincing start to their Concacaf Women's Olympic Caribbean Qualifying campaign, when they beat Cuba 12-1 inside the National Stadium on Monday

And, at the close of Thursday, Jamaica had three historic medals in field events at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha Qatar.
