'Motty' cared passionately for his work

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my condolence to Mr Wilmot 'Motty' Perkins' family and the staff of Power 106 FM.

Perkins was nationally and internationally recognised as one of Jamaica's finest journalists, who displayed the principle of good citizenship. Mr Perkins always had a warm interaction with his callers, even when there was disagreement on some issues. He was very informative on issues both nationally and internationally. He was an educator of unparalleled proportion.

Specifically, he gave good advice to his listeners, using good judgement and common sense in handling practical matters.

Importantly, Perkins was a man of conscience and integrity, the type of characteristic that's missing in our culture today. He was a true advocate of justice and truth.

He was not afraid to speak out against injustices. Some people stand for anything, but 'Motty' Perkins stood for what was right, fair and just.

He was a voice for the people. In addition, he cared passionately for his work and for the audience he served.

I hope his successors will continue to champion the cause for which he stood, particularly those of justice, fairness and equality, as well as to enlighten the minds of listeners.

May the footprints that Perkins leaves, lead men to believe in justice and truth.
