Don't scoff at patois

Dear Editor,

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Grace Virtue for her August 29 column in the Jamaica Observer, "Patois, things Jamaican and the big picture".

I've been saying the same thing for decades to my Jamaican family members and co-workers who live here in the USA and who treat patois as an ugly language and something to be ashamed of.

Dr Virtue, what you explain is so refreshing coming from a highly educated professional such as yourself. You made my morning in the midst of the woes from tropical storm Isaac. Thank you, again!
