Double taxation!
Monday, July 23, 2012
Dear Editor,
It seems odd that since call rates have gone down across both LIME and Digicel, the government has introduced a cess of 40 cents per minute for both local and international calls! What is disturbing is why isn't the OUR, FTC, or anyone raising an alarm about it?
It is a serious matter, because we pay tax when we buy a phone card. Why are we being taxed twice, and how will this benefit us or aid business communication and also communication across the region?
Does the government plan to tax us out of existence and make the cost of living so high that we opt out of living, or simply starve to death? This is why people will always look for loopholes in the system to get around!
