End of an era in journalism
Sunday, February 12, 2012
Dear Editor,
The passing of Wilmot 'Motty' Perkins on Friday, February 10, 2012 marks the end of an era in journalism in Jamaica. His was a life of dedicated service to his country.
'Motty' Perkins practised his profession with great skill, fortitude and enthusiasm. In his radio talk shows he was often the voice of the voiceless and forgotten. He did not hesitate to raise public issues to the levels of ministers and prime ministers, and sought answers and action. He represented the people as no one else could or would.
In his long career, truth, honesty and integrity have been his bulwark. He sought no honour and received none. Through his radio programme he entered the minds and hearts of the people of Jamaica. Many loved him, many depended on him to pursue issues, some opposed him without success.
'Motty' Perkins was as fearless as he was knowledgeable. He stood up for what he knew and believed to be right and just.
I extend condolence to his family. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him.
