Letters to the Editor

Hypocritical and insensitive, Mrs Simpson Miller

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Dear Editor:

One of the major problems with our politics is that politicians present themselves as if they really care about the majority of the people and the country as a whole, but the truth be told, this is far from being the case.

From all indications, all they care about is themselves, their families, and associates. For instance, when Mrs Portia Simpson Miller was in opposition, she criticised Mr Bruce Golding for having an 18-member Cabinet. Now that she is the prime minister, what has she done? She went even further to Mr Golding and appointed a 20-member Cabinet.

This is a very poor start to fixing any problem in Jamaica, and does not give us any confidence that the People's National Party is the better alternative than the Jamaica Labour Party.

The justification presented about succession planning is baseless, no matter how you look at it. It is nothing short of nepotism, hypocrisy and insensitivity to the plight that the country is facing.

I therefore urge Mrs Simpson Miller to listen to the people and cut the size of the Cabinet.

A smaller Cabinet can do the job you want to do. Please, show us that you are the better choice, and that you do care about Jamaica and not just the members of your party.
