Inspiring confidence

Dear Editor,

No one can deny that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We all know what corruption is and realise that it is a major factor inhibiting our prosperity. The present government should make every effort to reduce it considerably.

In this context, I think it is a deliberate policy of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller appointing Peter Bunting as minister of national security and Mark Golding as minister of justice, because we should expect them to utilise their proven financial acumen in dealing effectively with our problems of crime and corruption.

Incidentally, I do not think it is well known that the uncle of Minister Bunting, the late Vincent Bunting, was an outstanding member of both the army and the Jamaica Constabulary Force, retiring as deputy commissioner in charge of crime, and we should see genes playing out in his portfolio.

I say all the above to inspire hope and confidence which we so badly need at this time if we are to progress.
