JLP must take the mote from its eyes first

Monday, August 30, 2010

Dear Editor,

The Trafigura saga should not be used by the JLP as a weapon to censure the PNP's financing of their party in the 2007 general election. The JLP should take the mote out of their own eye before pointing to it in another's.

Despite lies told in Parliament and calls from the people of Jamaica from all sectors, Mr Golding stubbornly refuses to resign. Other politicians who might be involved in the Manatt, Phelps & Phillips affair should tender their resignations as well. The PNP did the right thing by relieving Colin Campbell of his post as information minister when the Trafigura matter was criticised.

We also see now that Mr Campbell has withdrawn his candidacy in the North Central Clarendon constituency, following the contractor general's request to the director of public prosecutions to examine whether Mr Campbell should be prosecuted for not cooperating with investigations into the Trafigura matter.

At the expense of one individual - Christopher "Dudus" Coke - this government caused mayhem in the nation. There was an eruption of violence in West Kingston killing people and damaging the nation's infrastructure: for example, a police station was razed and Coronation Market was badly burnt. The killing and maiming of people revealed that the rights of citizens there were disregarded.

D Fortis

Ah Fortis, you seem conveniently short sighted.
There are enough scandals and shenanigans that nearly all members of both parties should hang their heads in shame and leave.
You, however, need to take the blinkers off put on your glasses and see the TOTAL picture.
