Letters to the Editor

Joke of the year

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Dear Editor,

How can Minister of Information Daryl Vaz attempt to put down the only beacon of light in a sea of corruption -- Greg Christie? The part of his statement that I found most laughable was when he stated that Mr Christie's zeal and his no-nonsense approach were driving away people from serving their country

I am sure that it is driving away the dishonest and those who are afraid of the searchlight of public inquiry into their past and current misdeeds.

Some years ago I was talking to a man who I thought was an upright citizen and I suggested to him that he should place his biography in the publication Jamaican Personalities. He vehemently cursed the book and told me not over his dead body would he give anybody details of his past because it was none of their business.

Well you guessed it! It turned out that at the very moment I was speaking to him he was being investigated by the DEA. So it has to be the joke of the year for Minister Vaz to suggest that the honest and upright Jamaican is not prepared to serve his country because of Mr Christie.

Greg Christie is doing a great and courageous job, and instead of being criticised he should be congratulated for a job well done .

It should be remembered that after Mr Christie finishes his investigations into a matter, he sends his files to the director of public prosecutions and the police for them to follow through on what he has uncovered. So if nothing appears to be forthcoming you can't blame him.

Hail, Greg Christie. Remember, "The brave may fall but never yield."

We need someone with Mr Christie integrity as Minister of national Security and annex that Minister from GOJ ie make it completely independent.
Only then will we see a lasting reduction in crime as now the real big men of crimes can be investigated and they will get absolutely no protection from politicians since the politicians in no way shape or form could influence the general direction on National Security matter.
The police will now be truly independent of political direction.
