Letters to the Editor

Shame on Lewis

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Dear Editor,

This is an open letter to Mark Wignall.

My wife and I read your article on Carl Lewis and we warmly support you. Disappointingly, there has been very little coverage of the shameful behaviour of Lewis in the British papers. It is abhorrent to smear legitimate achievement with such mean, feudal condescension.

I think it must have soured many people's happiness internationally who have marvelled at the Jamaican athletes' success. If there were an online campaign to shame this man into courtesy, there would be many subscribers. He should learn some manners and some humility.

In the meantime, congratulations on your country's brilliance. It's been joyful to see.
