Use Marks's business acumen, competence

Dear Editor,

New administrations typically fill their cabinets and other appointive positions with members of their own political party. Additionally, new administrations may also appoint members of the opposing party to high-level positions in order to reduce partisanship or to improve cooperation between the political parties. Nevertheless, appointments across party lines are uncommon.

As Ambassador Marks stated in her letter earlier this week, it is normal protocol to tender one's resignation whenever there is a change in administration. This is also standard protocol here in the United States, as well as other democratic countries.

As a member of the Jamaican diaspora and an elected state official, I have developed a strong, respectful working relationship with Ambassador Marks since her appointment to the United States. Since then, she has demonstrated an unwavering desire and a strong determination to ensure that her tour of duty in Washington will provide optimum benefit to all Jamaicans at home and abroad.

Not only has she strengthened the relationship between both countries, she has also established and continues to negotiate long-term initiatives pertaining to job creation, trade and investment opportunities that will directly benefit Jamaica.

Given the many issues faced by the former administration, Ambassador Marks's appointment was one of the most progressive decisions they ever made. Her achievements during her short tenure speak for themselves. I believe the current administration would be remiss if they were to lose this opportunity to utilise her business acumen and competence to Jamaica's advantage.

Thanks Ms. Marks ....As a PNP Supporter I am ashamed of Comrades .....As they have glibly admitted. They have spent 18 years running Jamaica into the ground and the next stop is Haiti.
You could not do nothing for a Haiti either. Come home, build another successful business and I hope you get the vacant Seat in the Senate.

Elsie…your letter should enlighten those who don’t know or fail to appreciate the accomplishments of Mrs. Marks. I was disappointed to see the tribal comments that were made when she wrote her letter of resignation. We are more a victim (tribalism) of each other than from any other entities. Look at where we are in terms of development and we are still able to produce people like Mrs. Marks. She is qualified to be the PM of Jamaica right now; so imagine the possibilities. Jamaicans should rise.
