Letters to the Editor

We shall always triumph

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Dear Editor,

This is an open letter to columnist, Mark Wignall.

I'm writing this note to thank you for the August 12 article I stumbled upon online: "Carl Lewis owes Jamaica an apology".Your article made me proud as a black woman raising kids who are highly inspired by Usain Bolt - a black man who's not from the dominant West, but who has managed to make the world worship him and put his people at the forefront of excellence.

We are very disappointed in Carl Lewis's comments and his adverse influence on the sports quota system in American universities, that has minimised dreams of less fortunate sportswomen and sportsmen. Nonetheless, we shall always triumph.

The world rejoices with your sons, Jamaica. We are fortunate to witness your stars shine. Incidentally, I am of South African heritage.
