Abortion neither good nor bad in itself

Dear Editor,

There are endless arguments for and against facilitating the process of allowing women to abort dangerous or otherwise unwanted pregnancies. Super moralists, Christian clergymen, and others have presented logical and often reasonable arguments about when life begins and who has more “right” to live and whose life is more important — the mother or the unborn child/foetus/person?

The fact is that it is the eternal creator who ultimately determines and is in charge of who lives and who dies. He is the one who rules in the affairs of men, the one who sets up kings and governments and puts them down (Daniel 4:17). He is the one who has said, “Behold I set before you life and death,” and I counsel you to choose life (Deuteronomy 30: 15-20).

But, guess what, all the indications are that He has given mankind the freedom to choose, individually, and to live and die by the consequences of our choices.

And it is also very clear that in modern, multi-cultured societies, even good governments have neither been given, nor have earned the right to decide what is right for each person, in every situation.

Governments should simply do as much as they can to provide facilities and services to maintain order, justice, and good health.

Mothers, fathers and others should then be free to make their own choices/decisions concerning their personal welfare, and in matters of life and death be subject only to the clear and inalienable rights and freedoms.

Like many other things, abortion is neither “wrong” nor “right”, good or bad, in itself. And no one should be made a criminal by the society for personal decisions in this regard.

For it is the creator alone who is able to judge absolutely correctly in determining right from wrong.
