Dear Editor,

There is no question that many of us are happy to bid farewell to the past year, as it was another bloody year for Jamaicans. The year 2017 was one which left many of us shocked, saddened, and traumatised from rising gang violence, spiralling crime rate, and the country's out-of-control murder rate.

The dawn of a new year is a good time for all of us to carefully evaluate the time gone by and to look at the changes that 2017 brought to us. As we welcome 2018, we hope that our Government will continue to strive in restoring our socio-economic stability and maintain the pressure in the difficult fight against crime and corruption in our country.

The new year gives us the opportunity to try and make the wrongs right. Therefore, as we embrace 2018 let us look at some of the choices we have made and forgive those who have wronged us. Instead of killing one another, let us learn to compromise and resolve our differences peacefully. Let us also take stock of our accomplishments and failures of the past and make the necessary changes to meet our intended goals.

I pray for peace and unity for all as we ring in the new year.

Wishing everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
