Dear Editor,

The National Caucus of Councillors and Caretakers is devastated and saddened upon hearing news of the tragic and horrific murder of Member of Parliament Dr Lynvale Bloomfield.

We hail Dr Bloomfield as a humble and effective leader and nation-builder who has made his mark on the political landscape of our country.

While we pause to reflect on his contribution, we cannot ignore the signs that we are living in a crime-riddled society. It is a clear indication that no one is exempt from this monster that has gripped our nation, and sends an even louder signal for a stance to be taken against crime and violence with its far-reaching tentacles. We call upon the authorities to ensure that his perpetrators are brought to book.

We express heartfelt condolence to his family, friends, councillors and the constituents of Portland Eastern. May you all find peace in this extremely difficult time.
