Dear Editor,

Opposition Senator Sophia Frazer-Binns is right in saying that Jamaica needs Jesus Christ in order to reduce the spate of violence and murders. However, what shocked me, and I suspect many others, is that she said because of that knowledge she is unable to support the new crime Bill

How is that stopping her?

Yes, we must trust God for healing every illness and solving every problem, but the Bible, over and over again, shows how God has used other people to carry out the tasks He puts before them (for example, Joseph and Daniel).

If I was very sick, or my children were, I would pray as I drove to the doctor's office. I would ask the Lord to prepare the doctor so that he or she would offer a wise diagnosis and would be an extension of the Lord's own hand.

God helps those who help themselves. While this statement isn't found in the Bible, it doesn't need to be in order to be true. The same Bible that says “God is our provider” is the same Bible that says, “If any man will not work, let him not eat!”

Senator Frazer-Binns, your heart is definitely in the right place, but that should not stop you from supporting this Bill. What you should do is support the bill, but pray that it succeeds. It is no different from going to a doctor or taking medicine, but praying that they heal you.
