Contracts Commission commendation

Dear Editor I was very pleased to read in the Sunday, June 18th edition of your paper that the Jamaican Government had named the remaining two members to the National Contracts Commission.
I want to commend the Government for responding so quickly to the complaints of the Contractor-General, Mr Greg Christie. I want to congratulate Mr Christie on the stance he took to get the Commission in place so he could carry out his accepted responsibilities.
He would have provoked the Government to do what it ought to do more and in the process learn that it is the "squeekie wheels that get the grease".
I want to use this medium to say to the Government that there are many of their appointed public servants who are committed to doing a good job for the sake of their own professional satisfaction and who make the Government machinery look good. Those who criticise Mr Christie for making public his concerns at the non-appointment of the Commission members need to think again.
When public servants do well it is the Government that looks good. When they do not do well it is the Government against whom the citizens demonstrate.
Give the public servants the tools to do what you appoint them to do. If they do not do it, well, replace them and keep the Government machinery running efficiently.
