Dear Editor,
Mayor Sinclair's stop order on the RIU hotel appears to be the correct thing to do. Someone was not watching and protecting the interest of the government and citizens. The reason for three stories was based upon the location of the site in the direct flight path of aircraft.
If an aircraft fails to gain altitude while taking off, it would crash into the building with significant loss of life and property. There would be severe criticism and lawsuits on behalf of the victims.
Since we live in such a litigious society, there are several measures that must be taken to investigate further the present situation. The design of the RIU buildings must be reviewed to determine if in fact provision was made for the addition of the extra floor or if the foundation is adequate to safely support such loads.
Such an investigation will establish the structural integrity of the buildings or if in fact deficiencies exist. There is immediate need to convene a panel of engineers who are capable of carrying out the investigation which would include the plan that mysteriously appeared within the last two to three weeks.
