Brothels on wheels
Wednesday, November 04, 2009
Dear Editor,
I would like to congratulate you on what appears to have been worthwhile investigative work about the state of affairs on the mimibus and taxi subsectors of the transport system.
I say "appears" as unfortunately I did not see the article, but from the piece written by Mark Wignall on Sunday, I gather that your findings have proved what we knew all along - that the tinted minibuses and taxis have been nothing more than brothels on wheels, only that the prostitutes and johns are predominantly schoolboys and schoolgirls from broken homes, living out the message in the dancehall music and lifestyle that have been drummed into their heads by a compliant electronic media landscape.
Already your article has begun to get what I am sure was the desired result, as a dormant and ineffective police force seems to have awakened from its slumber and has begun taking some action to control the situation by targeting specific routes and bus operators. Nothing short of a dedicated squad of transit police with a clear mandate to remove the offending operators off the road will suffice.
I suspect too that by removing these miscreants from our roadways we will also be lessening the accident rate as these are the same operators who are driving on the other side of the roads at 100 miles per hour, stopping suddenly in front of other motorists and generally making our roads unsafe for everyone.
