Dear Editor,

It seems everyone has an opinion on the incident in which the cop pepper-sprayed a reported retired officer recently. So I do, too.

I am glad it happened, because so often policemen, both senior and junior, mistreat plain old regular people and nothing comes of it.

They are coarse and inconsiderate and we often have no redress.

From this incident we see exposed both the arrogance of the retired cop — no doubt carried over from his years in service — and the extent to which present cops can be excessive.

Don't get me wrong, both of them acted improperly. But I am happy it occurred between “squaddies”.

Plus, don't miss the point that the recording son's default position was to call who and who, and not to recognise that his father's response caused the situation to escalate. What about those who have no 'bigger heads' to call?

Everybody is exposed.

I am glad it happened.
