Keep at it, Senator Ruel Reid; good job!
Dear Editor,
Please afford me the opportunity to express my opinion regarding the management of the information portfolio by Senator Ruel Reid.
On March 7, 2016, Minister Reid was assigned the huge responsibility of Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. Never before has information been conflated with education and youth, but Reid accepted the baton and ran with it. It demonstrates quite aptly to me, and all well-thinking Jamaicans, that Prime Minister Holness has a high level of confidence in this public servant.
Since then Senator Reid has led with distinction as it pertains to his management of the ministry. I will focus in this letter on the information aspect of the portfolio. Jamaicans should be reminded that the “Ministry of Information” is largely managed by the Office of the Prime Minister. It is my observation and confirmed knowledge that Reid has been strategically focused on the development of a practical framework to support effective and efficient communication, records and information management. This augurs well for posterity.
He provides a comprehensive report every two weeks on his Government's Cabinet deliberations and decisions made on behalf of the people of this country. The islandwide switchover from analogue to digital television by 2019 continues unabated. The National Values and Attitudes Campaign has been revived and strong messages have been disseminated.
I believe in Senator Reid's capabilities and his tenacious approach in getting the job well done. People need to recognise and understand that. Keep going, Senator Reid!
