Dear Editor,

It pains my heart to see the lack of resources which is hampering the creative energy within the police force. A car-stealing ring was uncovered by the police, but lack of brainpower allowed the thieves to escape as seen on TVJ's newscast recently.

I was taken aback when I saw a raid by the police in Waterhouse, St Andrew, in which they saw an open lot at the end of a track wherein were found many scrapped vehicles. The police allegedly used a tracking device from a new vehicle recently scrapped to find the location. This is technology use, but more technology could be used to capture the perpetrators without much fanfare.

First and foremost, the police should not go in when the perpetrators were not there, because it is a total waste of energy and definitely a wasted strategy and opportunity. If they had faith in the device they would wait patiently for the opportune time to catch the criminals.

But maybe the police were afraid of coming under gunfire in the zone of exclusion, so they did their search without due diligence in fear of being attacked. By doing what the police has done it only allows the criminal elements to relocate their activities to a different community. Inasmuch as we would like to catch the wrongdoers the police are not equipped to take them on.

To be honest, if the police were equipped with drones they could collect valuable information from pictures of all the perpetrators. The area could have been determined to be a zone of special operations. The police could set themselves strategically to capture the wrongdoers and even find out what type of weapons they are carrying. They could then strike when they least expected from the readings relayed from the drone technology.
