Dear Editor,

I wish to highlight the recent award to Vernon Derby, The Spotlight Award.

This award was bestowed on him by the United States Embassy for his initiatives and wide-ranging contribution to matters relating to immigration over an extensive period of time.

His radio programme, At your service, on Nationwide, though very diverse, has been one medium.

Being an avid reader of the Jamaica Observer myself, the article and photo came to my attention.

In developing further, his capacity as an initiator, agitator, entertainer, and educator through many years in Jamaica, like the US personnel have done, and having regard for his timeless and varied inputs in nation-building, even prior to his radio programme, makes him quite deserving.

I venture to invite relevant powers locally, through this medium, to examine if this individual is not more than properly positioned to be further 'spotlighted' for a national award commensurate to his never-diminishing contribution.
