Dear Editor,

Words cannot be found to express the depth of what every well-thinking Jamaican must be feeling in relation to the recent minibus debacle on Black Hill main road in Portland.

It's beyond ludicrous to think that the driver responsible for the loss of one promising young life, as well as the upheaval of the lives of so many others, had been charged with operating an overcrowded vehicle just a few weeks earlier. Could this be insanity?

It's a dark and cruel day!

Death, through wanton recklessness, is still at play.

Weapons, poised on wheels are manipulated by demented fiends

Who, purportedly produce hurt, in order to succeed!

Promising lives are given little thought.

Speed, intolerance,

Mindlessness and greed

Must, within the realm of jocund imbecility ,

Make their mark!

Overcrowding, speeding

And total disregard or disrespect for others' lives

Cause dimwits just to steer, with little or no compromise.

Sense, for some who drive, is not forthcoming

Until lives get overturned!

When blood with fright and chaos

And long, frantic, screams are hurled!

What can anyone say to those who suffer now?

Who can broach the parents of that child who is no more?

Prayers and kind words may sit like that heirloom;

A precious thing to cling to, since its owner has left the room.

And, if the reckless driver is not fortunate enough

To be repatriated soon, as soul

Can he live without remorse?

The answer, surely, sits with time alone.
