This week's Under The Dryer team popped into J MAXX Hair and Nail Club operated by one of Kingston's highly sought-after hair stylists, Wayne Maxwell. The business, since opening its doors 11 years ago, has steadily grown to be the place where innovative styling meets optimum hair care.

Embracing My Roots

Name: Titania Grant

Title: Insurance Representative

The Look:

Sleek Straight hair using Keratin Treatment. Titania Grant has chosen to revert to her natural locks. Working in the insurance industry and being a socialite, Titania seeks a functional hair do that can easily transition from one occasion to the next. Hair is cleansed with KeraCare Therapy Pre Treatment shampoo. Hair is sprayed with KeraCare Therapy Colour Lock and Smooth to prevent breakage and heat damage to hair. The hair is sectioned and blow-dried to straighten the hair in preparation for styling. A titanium flat iron is used to achieve a straight, sleek look.

Maintenance:

Deep-condition the hair weekly and roller-set. Wrap hair nightly to maintain style.

Transition:

The cut and the length of the hair make it easy to style in a number of looks. You may try a classic up do, stylish ponytail or even a functional bun.

All of the Lights

Name: Nicole Gordon

Title: Accountant

Nicole Gordon is the epitome of paradoxes: an accountant who lives on the edge. She's been a customer of Wayne Maxwell for 10 years and has done it all when it comes to hair. From a texturised short crop to jetblack dyed tresses, she's ready to switch it up yet again. Today she opts for glamorous highlights fit for any celebrity.

The Look:

Trimmed Tresses /blond highlights and undertones.

Steps:

Client's hair is shaped with a four-inch shear to remove uneven ends.

Highlights and undertones are applied using Redken Blonde Dimensions and Redken Colour Fusion 6g and 10gb, respectively, using an applicator brush. Be sure to segment the hair with foil so that the colour can be applied evenly.

Colour is rinsed ahead of cleansing with Redken Colour Extend shampoo and conditioner.

Hair is flat-wrapped using the KeraCare Foam Wrap mousse ahead of sitting under the dryer for 20 minutes.

Hair is prepped with Redken Heat Styling Non-Stick 07 and styled with a titanium-steel flat iron to produce a modest curled-under bob.

Maintenance:

To maintain healthy hair, be sure to deep-condition it weekly using Redken Colour Extend Serum to moisturise hair. Also, wrap the hair nightly to maintain that fresh-from-the-salon look.

Transition:

If the modest bob is not for you, try mixing it up a little by experimenting with different styles such as edgy flips or a simple slicked-back 'do.
