Pimora is a… pimento-based briquette/ smoker made from compressed dried pimento leaves which, when placed in your grill alongside the charcoal or in your oven, adds pimento flavouring to your meats or vegetables. The smoking of the briquettes/ smokers releases the natural pimento oils of the leaves - which are infused into the product being grilled.

The product was developed by… a fledgling entrepreneur and scientist, Clive Myrie.

Salada Foods Jamaica Ltd saw in Pimora… an opportunity for product diversity to its existing product complement. Pimora was also a great opportunity to advance Salada’s export thrust. Salada owns 70 per cent of the product

The product is available at... a number of retail outlets, namely, Lee’s Food Fair Red Hills Road, Loshusan Barbican, Universal Wholesale, General Foods - Liguanea. We have also demonstrated the product to a number of executive chefs who are very excited about the product.

The response has been… excellent and we have gained reorders for the product due to the response.

Pimora is purchased by… housewives, men who cook as well as chefs.

We knew we were on to a good thing when... we realised that this was the missing element of providing authentic jerk flavour to our meats and vegetables and the fact that Pimora is eco-friendly - the fact that no trees are harmed in its development is an added bonus.

Jamaicans should support this product because.. Pimora is locally made, it provides jobs for Jamaicans and all the inputs to make this product are local but most importantly, it really adds the pimento flavour to your foods, making it great Jamaican Jerk.

If we knew then what we know now we would have... employed a targeted education campaign around the use of the product and its eco-friendly nature.
