How did you land the job?
I was sponsorship executive at a telecommunications company when a friend of mine told me about a new opportunity. At first I did not know which of the Wisynco brands the position was for, but what intrigued me most about this opportunity was the job description for the role. At the time, my role as sponsorship exec was specifically focused on sponsorship which is only a function of marketing. After being in that role for two years, my appetite to delve into other functions of marketing grew and such, I adjusted my career goals to explore and practice the marketing function of a business as a whole, rather than just focusing on parts of it.
After deciding that the new role would better fit with my newly aligned goals, I went through the application and interview process as I was eager to land the job. I did an interview with Sean Scott, the CEO of Wisynco Foods, after which I was given a brief and asked to prepare a presentation of a marketing campaign for one of the restaurant brands. Within a few days of submitting my presentation, I received a call and was pleased to be offered the position of marketing coordinator for Wisynco Foods which manages the Wendy's and Domino's Pizza brands.
How long have you been in the job?
I started this position in March of this year and since then it has been and continues to be an exciting learning experience.
What's great about your job?
What has been great about my job so far are the challenges and the learning experiences that come along with it. Coming from a telecommunications industry where the business processes and customer demands are different, I've had to learn quickly how the restaurant industry functions, and how best to communicate with our customers. Also, no two days are the same. Within the first few weeks of working with both brands, I worked at the restaurant level learning to make Wendy's sandwiches and pizzas. At Wisynco Foods we believe that for us to effectively market our products we have to first know our products and experience first-hand what makes them great. Many people may not know this but I am also a "foodie" at heart, so being able to work with international food brands such as Wendy's and Domino's that are constantly innovating and creating delicious fast food options is icing on the cake.
Tell us something that we might not know about the Wendy's and Domino's brands.
Most persons when they think Domino's they think pizza, but Domino's sells much more than just pizza. The Domino's menu has a variety of options other than pizza. Domino's currently carries two different types of wings: boneless chicken wings and bone-in-chicken wings served with a your choice of dipping sauce. We carry bread sticks, cheesy bread, cinna-stix, and lava cake (chocolate cake with a warm gooey middle, baked fresh!) and the newest addition to the line-up -- our stuffed cheesy bread. The stuffed cheesy bread was introduced to the menu this summer and comes in three different varieties -- cheese only; cheese, bacon and jalapeno; and spinach, feta cheese, and cheddar cheese. All three varieties boast as much cheese as a medium pizza and are just as delicious!
When persons think of healthy eating they don't think of fast food, but Wendy's is the game changer to that thinking. At Wendy's we believe in nutritious options, and as such we have a few healthy options that our customers can use to make their meal healthier by reducing their calorie intake. For example, instead of fries you can ask for a garden salad or a plain baked potato with no sour cream or chives, or even a small chilli. With options such as these, we empower our customers to tailor their meals to suit their dietary requirements.
What makes Wendy's and Domino's attractive options for those looking for fast food?
At Wendy's quality is our recipe. Wendy's operates on a gold standard in preparing quality food for our customers. We do not believe in "cutting corners", and this belief is carried all the way through from the preparation of our burgers and chicken sandwiches to our customer service. Wendy's also carries the largest variety of food options on our menu when compared to our competitors. In addition to having a variety of delicious burgers and chicken sandwiches, we also carry Super Snack options such as our chicken-go wraps which consists of an option of three different styles of chicken wrapped in a soft tortilla. The chilli-cheese fries, loaded fries (fries with bacon and cheese), and nacho chilli chips and cheese are also a part of the Super Snack options. We also carry six different styles of hot stuffed baked potato and give our customers the option to switch out their side of fries for either chilli or a side salad. Wendy's also carries our Garden Sensation line of salads which features four types of freshly made salads as well as desserts such as our frosty shakes and floats. With such a wide menu variety there is something for everyone at Wendy's, whether you are looking for an entire meal for the family or just a snack on the go.
