British Top Shop opens in Sydney
Saturday, October 06, 2012
Sydney is tipped to see more queues next week in the city when the latest international fashion store, Top Shop/Top Man, opens its doors at 9:00 am.
Almost four years after making its first approach to agents to find an appropriate site in Sydney, the UK label — which has model Kate Moss as its "face"— will open it doors on the corner of Market and George streets.
The store occupies the basement, ground and first floors of what was the former Sydney institution, the Gowings store. But that site has been redeveloped by new boutique QT Hotel, which opened a month ago.
Initially, agents touted the opposite corner, where the Commonwealth Bank is located, but that was deemed too far out of the core CBD retail strip. International retailers have long desired opening in Australia, but have been hindered by the lack of available sites.
