CPJ APPOINTS award-winning chef

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Forty-year-old Executive Chef Anthony Miller has been officially appointed to work with the Mark Hart and Tom Tyler-led Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited (CPJ). The award-winning Texan-born chef has worked at several upscale hotels in and outside of Jamaica, has conducted several cooking demonstrations the world over and has made a number of local and international TV appearances. Miller recently completed filming of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reality show Big Brother with South African Celebrity Chef Benny Masekwameng and participated in Jamaica 50 activities in South Africa.

The newly appointed chef began his culinary training in Dallas, Texas after working for several years in steak houses in the city. Loving the industry, he enrolled in El Centro College as an apprentice in 1989, and shortly after worked as an apprentice with Chef John Bonché and Executive Chef Kevin Garvin at the historic Adolphus Hotel. He continued his training with Executive Chef Avner Samuel at the World Famous Fairmont Hotel for two additional years, completing his apprentice training. Two years later, he was offered his first sous chef position with his former boss and friend at the hour and a half star Avner's Restaurant near Dallas's French Quarter district. He moved to Jamaica from Puerto Rico in 2002 after working as a chef at the upscale Westin Rio Mar.

While at CPJ, Miller will create culinary services for guests by way of CPJ's Kingston restaurants, due to open later this year and its new state-of-the-art staff canteen, which will open later this month in Montego Bay. He will also oversee meat product development at CPJ's new meat-processing plant, due to open this month in Westmoreland, and drive food pairing and utilisation of Jamaican food products for different cuisines.

CPJ was founded in 1994 to service the hospitality industry as an integrated food service distributor. The company formed a retail services division in 2003, recognising the need for international beverages, wines and spirits. It also recently signed a US$1-million deal with SWISHER to enhance their technical services for hygiene cleaning chemical products. CPJ is now Jamaica's largest food service distributor and the fastest- growing retail distributor in Jamaica.
