Delrose Campbell, attorney-at-law, Jamdammers Running Club member, and Reggae Marathon organising committee director, is as passionate about track and field as she is about life. The real estate and business lawyer is a hardcore spirits girl — after all, white rum is her preferred persuasion. Pull up a chair as she lays it all on the line.

What’s your favourite drink?

White rum, for a few reasons: it is restorative, it blends well with many cocktails and supports local agriculture and manufacturing.

Who is the funniest person you know, and why?

My friend Claire Bourne of recent memory. Her characteristic wit and twist on what would otherwise be cheerless situations still have me amused.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received from another woman?

"Panya chicken nuh cry fi feather, him cry fi life" (translated as "focus on truly living by knowing what is important ") was the advice my grandmother always gave me.

Whose bookcase would you raid, and why?

My friend Judy Rao, a retired librarian, and avid reader with an enviable collection of books and a world view so modern and non-judgmental that defies her age.

How do you nurture discipline?

I think I am programmed by my upbringing; anything else feels wrong.

If you could redo one thing in your life, what would it be?

I am privileged to say I have a life of no regrets, but perhaps I should have paid more attention to Spanish lessons in school.

Where would you live, other than The Rock, and why?

I am yet to find another place that could replace the beauty and dynamism of Jamaica. I truly embrace its goodness and thrive on the challenges.

When were you satisfied that you had perfected your signature?

I don’t know that I have perfected it! Without being deliberate my signature continues to evolve; a comparison over time is really interesting.

Is it best to upgrade one’s current property or should one look to the purchase of a bigger or secondary home for the next chapter?

The location of the property would determine what is best. Some neighbourhoods are regrettably in decline, so it is imprudent to invest in improving a home there. The best value return would be to sell and invest elsewhere.

What is the impact of the resale market, as a profit generator, on the Rock’s real estate sector?

The real estate market is still the best medium-to long-term investment tool in a low interest rate and declining dollar market.

Home is where the... Mind and heart find peace.
