Colour with Angelie - Emerald Green
by Angelie Martin-Spencer
Thursday, January 10, 2013
The colour for 2013 according to the international authority on colour, Pantone, is emerald green. Yep, we're seeing green this year; and there isn't a thing wrong with that as it's such a bold and vibrant colour.
It's also a very regal, and sophisticated colour that mixes well with neutrals, but if you're a bit on the bold side you can try mixing emerald with complementary colours such as yellow, orange and turquoise, to create an energetic, bright and exotic look. A small emerald green accent, such as a throw pillow or vase, will add a touch of elegance to your home without costing you too much. You do not have to go overboard with the trend, unless of course it's your absolute favourite colour and you can live with it for a long time. Here are a few ideas on how to bring this beautiful jewel tone into your home:
*Lamps are a practical home accent and there is no reason they can't be beautiful too. They add light and sparkle to your home, especially in emerald.
*An emerald green vase can be the base for lots of beautiful flowers.
*Green in the kitchen works beyond natural products and recycling. How about adding some bold plates, cups and glasses in emerald to your kitchen collection, like those pictured here. The colours vary along the green scale and the range is very pleasing to the eye.
*Appliances are available in lots of bold colours these days, so if you're in the market for a mixer or toaster or blender, how about investing in an emerald green version, like the one pictured here.
*Green bedding and towels in solids, florals or bold prints are another great way to bring the colour of the year into your home.
*Asian-inspired accent furniture are a hot trend for 2013. Painting furniture, like this sideboard pictured here in emerald, is a bold statement in your home and will brighten up an entryway, dining room or bedroom.
*Animal prints is still a hot trend for 2013, so why not accentuate it with emerald, like the cushions pictured here.
*Accent pillows are the easiest and most obvious way to quickly introduce colour and texture to your home décor. Adding emerald pillows in luxurious textures with embellishments and sparkles add drama, colour and luxury.
*Of course you can do the obvious and paint a room or an accent wall in a beautiful shade of emerald.
