Curl power!

People Post

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Kelly Rowland looked like a goddess as she was honoured by Essence magazine on Wednesday. The singer, who turns 31 today, wore a one-shouldered flowing orange gown and a curly hairdo for the annual Black Women in Music pre-Grammy event. Kelly was recognised for her longevity in the music industry as well as for being nominated for an award at the upcoming ceremony. She styled her hair in tiny curls that framed her gorgeous face. Kelly told MailOnline that she was humbled by the honour and was excited for this Sunday's award ceremony. Her former Destiny's Child band mate Michelle Williams was along for support and gushed about being there for her friend.

"We normally like to give each other our space but when Kelly told me she was being honoured, she said that I had to be here," Michelle told MailOnline. Michelle looked wonderful herself in a sexy black and gold mini dress that clung to her tiny curves. Also honoured at the event was music industry legend Sylvia Rhone who was given the Trailblazer prize for her pioneering work with artists across many genres. Her appointment as chairman and CEO of Elektra Entertainment Group in 1994 made her the only African American and the first woman in the history of music to hold that title. She has had a hand in the careers of many successful artists as diverse as Metallica, Lil Wayne, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, and Yolanda Adams. Sylvia stepped down from being the president of legendary label Motown in 2011 and says she's ready to try out new things in her life. Kelly was also surprised with a plaque commemorating the fact that she has sold one million singles of Motivation -- the same song she is Grammy nominated for.

'I would NEVER call myself a supermodel'

She's been considered one of the world's most famous supermodels for the past two decades. But Naomi Campbell, who was one of the first to ever be given the title, insists her status is entirely unfounded, telling Harper's Bazaar that there is nothing 'super' about her. The catwalk favourite — who got her big break at 15 when she was scouted while shopping in London's Covent Garden — said: "I would never call myself that. I don't have any superhuman powers."

And while she plumps for steams and facials to keep her skin in tip-top condition, she has no plans to go under the surgeon's knife. She said: "Plastic surgery is fine for those who do it for themselves and not to please someone else. I don't worry about a number. I'm fine with ageing." The reformed diva — who in the past has been accused of assaulting employees, a police officer and her therapist — is now sober, having won the fight against drug addiction and believes she is a better person because of her errors. She said: "Look, you have to make mistakes. That's how you learn and that's how the world works. I've made a few. What makes a person is the ability to look at themselves and deal with their own lives. How you deal with [your actions] is what defines you." And Naomi has no plans to slow down any time soon, saying: "I still love what I do. It's a new challenge to see how people can change your look. I like words like transformation, reinvention, and chameleon. One word I don't like is predictable."

She's the fairest of them all!

Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron are set to play the Evil Queen in screen adaptations of Snow White. But Megan Fox strikes a strong resemblance to the Disney character in Armani's latest beauty campaign. Sporting ebony hair, blood red lips and a pale complexion, the 25-year-old actress and model reveals a Gothic look. The Transformers star was revealed as the face of the Italian cosmetic brand two years ago, taking over from Dutch model Lara Stone. And over the years Fox has built a strong relationship with Italian creative, Giorgio Armani, making regular appearances at catwalk shows. The latest make-up collection pays homage to Hollywood glamour. Sultry lipstick shades and shimmering eye shadows are features of the Thirties-inspired range. Fox was the former ambassador of Armani's jeans, but was replaced by singer Rihanna last year. Describing her work with 77-year-old Armani, she previously said: "I'm honoured to be associated with him and be a part of this campaign." And the praise from the designer was mutual. Armani called the actress "confident and seductive".
