They are currently ranked number three at the world youth level. When these ladies step onto the court, they put their best foot forward in representing their country, so when it was time for them to be pampered like the stars they are, they got the full package. Your Under the Dryer team was on hand for 'makeover madness' as the team from Cutting Edge Hair and Nails 'glammed' up our young Sunshine Girls. We take you behind the scenes.
Lead In: There's no better time than summer to take the scissors to your hair. The under-21 netball squad jetted off to Glasgow, Switzerland for the World Youth Netball Championships last Monday, and Carolene Dennis, 'the Queen of Cuts', at Cutting Edge Hair and Nails made sure the young team looked a 'cut above the rest'.
Tip: If you're contemplating a drastic cut, do so in consultation with your hairstylist to ensure that it is a cut that best suits your face shape and personality.
Zanasha Hinds, centre court
Hairdo: Do the Wave
1 After the hair is washed, cut the back of the hair shorter than the front and even out sides at jaw level to enhance mane movement.
2 Sit under the dryer for 15 minutes, then use a blow-dryer to complete the drying process.
3 Cut a long, blunt bang in the front and use a crimp curler to add voluminous waves to the back of the hair.
4 Spray with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray to make hair shiny.
Tip: Blunt bangs draw attention to the eyes, so if your eyes are your best asset, let the bang work for you.
Vangelee Williams, Captain
Hairdo: Punkster Chic
A captain's gotta have the competitive edge, right? That's exactly what Vangelee's new do gives her.
1 Prep hair using a relaxer to straighten.
2 Cut hair to the desired length (the back should be shorter than the front).
3 Shampoo hair to get rid of dirt and other build-up.
4 Use Dudley black rinse to give hair a darker tone.
5 Use medim-sized hair rollers to add curls at the crown of the head and sit under dryer for 15-20 minutes.
6 Remove rollers and comb out curls, lifting the front up and back for sky-high lifted layers.
7 Spray with spritz to hold hair in place.
This textured, layered crop is an edgy twist on mega-voluminous retro styles.
Khadijah Williams, centre court
Hairdo: Angled Play
1 Prep hair by relaxing/processing it to straighten.
2 Cut hair at jaw length in an inverted bob. (This cut is gradiated in the back to achieve the rounded silhouette that continues through the sides where ends are snipped at an incline.)
3 Add a sidepart and a few tracks to add volume and body to hair.
4 Use a flat iron to make hair straight and smooth. Lots of crown layers add fullness. (A side part and ruler-straight styling add excitement and edge to the look.)
5 Direct ends towards the jaw to cuddle the face.
6 Cut full-angled bangs in the front and a mist of Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray for a glossy finish.
Shantal Slater, Goal Shooter
Hairdo: Chic and Unique
1 Prep hair by relaxing, then use Dudley's burgundy hair rinse to colour.
2 Wearing a steam cap for 15-20 minutes will ensure hair takes the colour well.
3 Shampoo hair and sit under dryer until completely dry.
4 Cut hair in an angled geometric bob that starts out ultra-short and choppy on one side, ending in a long point that grazes the jaw.
5 Style hair to hug the head, then use a flat iron to add tiny curls to the back and to straighten the front.
6 Spray with spritz to hold hair in place and mist with moisturiser to add sheen.
Shanice Beckford, Goal Shooter
Hairdo: Pixie Perfect 'Hawk'
1 Cut hair to desired length, making the back shorter than the front.
2 Use a flat iron to add small curls to the back of the head and bigger curls at the crown.
3 In a semi-mohawk formation, use the flat iron to add light flip curls down the centre of the head.
4 Cut hair at the side in a V-shape to give the look an edge.
5 Spray with spritz to hold hair in place.
This textured, layered crop is an edgy twist on the classic pixie.
Adean Thomas, Centre Court
Hairdo: Sweet and Stylish Up-do
1 Cut ends of hair to get rid of split ends and to prevent it from travelling further up the nape.
2 Prep hair by relaxing using Motions Hair Relaxer. After hair is fully processed, shampoo using Motions Neutralizing Shampoo.
3 Add Dudley's Fantastic Colors Conditioning Hair Color natural black hair rinse. Put on a steam cap and let hair stay for 15-20 minutes.
4 After hair is fully coloured, use KeraCare Hydrating shampoo to rinse. Gather hair into a tight ponytail at the crown of the head and use Black n' Sassy Wrap Crème to hold hair in place and sit under dryer until completely dry.
5 Use 100% human hair to wrap around the ponytail for more length.
6 Use a braided plait to wrap around ponytail as a heightened base for the bun.
7 Use a barrel curling iron to add loose curls to the ponytail and wrap into a tight bun, using hairpins to hold bun in place.
8 Create a side bang at the font of the head and use a flat iron to straighten.
