For the Love of Chocolate - Mount Pleasant Farm Chocolatiers

Wednesday, February 03, 2016

AVERELL French, proprietor of Mount Pleasant Farm Chocolatiers, applies a farmer’s perspective to chocolate making, something he finds uniquely beneficial.

"We like to take things from the plant to the plate; we find that this approach works really well for us, because we are better able to control the quality of the product, and indeed the entire production process, so it’s quite rewarding from a farmer’s point of view.

In Jamaica we are truly blessed with having quality raw materials at our disposal," French told Thursday Life.

"We operate in the Blue Mountain area, we grow our own cocoa, and we interact closely with a network of organic farmers.

They are very passionate about what they grow, and it really shows in their cocoa," he added. Mount Pleasant offers a range of chocolate products, including dark, white and flavoured chocolates, chocolate wine and chocolate spreads.

The brand’s chocolate cups and coffee wine are among the products French anticipates will be in demand among his clientele come Valentine’s Day.

Special requests are also welcome! "Jamaican chocolate is something that is sought after all over the world. We have a particularly high demand for our brand in Germany.

Chocolate is a super food, especially dark chocolate; you can’t downplay the benefits of that, and fruits also come with their own share of health benefits, so naturally we welcome any combination of the two. We like to work with coconut in particular, as well as interesting flavour infusions, like jerk and curry." One thing’s for sure, these goodies won’t stay on the shelves for too long!
