How Betsey does 70

Sunday, August 19, 2012

As cameras captured the milestone for her slated new reality show on the Style Network, Johnson lit up the room in a strapless, ‘frill-tastic’ gold lamé dress as she greeted scores of adoring friends and fans in attendance, most of whom rocked their Betsey Johnson best in her honour.

With Champagne flowing, guests satisfied their sweet tooths with candy galore as they admired Johnson's exclusive triple-tiered hot pink and neon green cake, adorned with leopard spots and a giant bow made by the star of TLC’s hit series Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro Jr.

The petite Johnson, momentarily taking a break from the planning of her New York Fashion Week show in September, was in full celebration mode, even playfully providing entertainment with a birthday whip gifted to her by Steve Madden.

With a moving toast by her daughter and upcoming designer Lulu complete, many expected a signature cartwheel to round out the occasion, but instead Johnson upped the ante for her 70th by displaying an Olympic medal-worthy full split. Seventy never looked so good, and, of course, we were there to catch it all.

Happy Birthday, Betsey!
