Island Grill Lends a Hand!
Thursday, October 25, 2012
DIGICEL hosted its first annual 'Digicel Foundation 5K Night Run/Walk in Aid of Special Needs', Saturday last. The run commenced at the company's new downtown Ocean Boulevard location. The initiative, which also hopes to bolster the image of downtown nightlife, saw thousands of walkers and sprinters competing under the banner 'Take Back the Night'.
Perhaps sharpening their skills ahead of the Jamaica Observer-driven initiative Salut!, which started the following day, Island Grill's catering arm served over 2,000 meals, with the Digicel crew consuming 900 while the remainder was consumed by other corporate sponsors such as the Guardsman Group of Companies, J Wray & Nephew, Pepsi, UDC, and Access Financial.
"We wanted to support the purpose of the 5K — to bring focus on downtown Kingston as a safe destination, and to raise funds for the disabled/challenged persons who need assistance," explained Island Grill Director Thalia Lyn.
