Madonna's ex husband Guy Ritchie plans to open brewery

Monday, July 26, 2010

Madonna famously didn't like his fondness for a pint at the pub, and it was often cited as a reason behind the collapse of their marriage. Now Guy Ritchie has cemented his single-man status by going a step further and setting up a brewery.

Ritchie, the director of films Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Sherlock Holmes, intends to sell real ales and bottled beers brewed at his 1,100-acre Ashcombe House estate in Wiltshire.

The proposed brewery, which will replace abandoned outbuildings on the estate, will create 12 jobs. An application for the brewery has been lodged with Wiltshire County Council. It states that the estate wants to produce beer 'in its traditional form' with live yeast in the cask.

The product would be sold to local pubs, restaurants and hotels. The proposed brewery will also produce premium-bottled beer, which could be sold around the world. Ritchie, 41, who is currently planning a follow-up to his smash hit Sherlock Holmes film, is no stranger to the beer business: he co-owns The Punch Bowl pub in London's Mayfair. There have also been several complaints from residents fed up with the antics of customers, including Ritchie's celebrity friends.

In January, Westminster Council imposed a series of restrictions on The Punch Bowl's licence after officials received 70 complaints in just 18 months.

Ritchie has already reportedly registered several beer trademarks including Bitta Ritchie, Punchbowl Ales and Ashcombe Ales. If planning officers give the brewery the green light, it could be operating as early as next spring.

Single-again Kelly Osbourne hooks up for lunch with her brother Jack

Family is never more important than in times of crisis, and Jack Osbourne played the caring brother yesterday as he caught up with sister Kelly, who is currently suffering from a broken heart, for lunch in LA. No doubt his parents would be pleased to see her laughing again, thanks largely to the multi-tattooed friend sporting a bandito moustache who arrived with her. Jack appeared to be in great form, as he brought along a girlfriend of his own.

He gave his 20-year-old sister a big hug as she continues to recover from the break-up the week before last with fiancée Luke Worrall after he allegedly cheated on her. The siblings then went to lunch at the California Chicken Cafe. The former Dancing With The Stars contestant and the blonde model started dating in May 2008 after meeting through friends. After months of rumours, the couple officially announced their engagement in March 2009 shortly after Kelly spent time in rehab for her addiction to painkillers.

She is now said to be in the running for a role in a planned film based on the story of the Osbournes, although she has already been told by her mother, Sharon, that she willl have to audition for a part.

Jessica Simpson goes back to acting on Entourage

Tell him what you really think, why don't you? A sassy and sharp Jessica Simpson is seen telling Jeremy Piven's character Ari Gold in Entourage exactly what she thinks of him in an upcoming episode of the hit show. The 30-year-old singer plays herself in the scene where her hardball ex-agent Ari shows up at her house to grovel after avoiding her phone calls for months. 'I'm sorry,' he says. 'I brought you a present.'

Then his assistant appears out of nowhere clutching a fluffy, black puppy. 'I know it must have been hard after you lost your dog. I'm sorry I didn't call.' The scene makes light of the fact that Jess lost her own puppy Daisy earlier this year after it was snatched by a coyote whilst out on a hike. The star's last foray into acting was in the 2008 film Major Movie Star, in which she played an actress who joins the army after suffering amnesia from a car accident. The film went straight to DVD and since then Simpson has focused on developing her fashion lines. The success of these has reportedly amassed her a fortune of $80 million and created a fashion empire worth over $400 million.

The new season of Entourage started yesterday on HBO.
