Necessary Luxury - Kemisha Oates

Managing Director, Significant Details

Sunday, February 12, 2012

There are certain items that give my confidence an extra boost and make my days comfortable. These are my necessary luxuries. I cannot imagine getting through a day without them. My Digicel BlackBerry 9860 keeps me connected to friends, family and suppliers throughout the day.

I feel that my outfit is only complete once I have placed my watch on my wrist and slipped my feet into a carefully selected pair of stilettos. I check the time regularly in a bid to stay on top of things and I don't feel fully dressed without my watch. Heels add flair and accentuate any outfit. They are definitely a confidence booster when taking on the world. My signature scent, something clean and crisp, is either Prada Infusion or Versace Crystal Bright. My mood is instantly brightened after a spritz in the morning.

My iPhone 4 is an absolute must-have item because I cannot survive without regular updates from Jamaica Observer via RSS (confession: I am an app junkie and I have an app for everything). My Twitter and Facebook apps keep me in touch with customers and allow me to answer questions on the go. They also help me maintain important connections with friends near and far. There is also my Bible app for morning readings, music to entertain me when I am at my boutique and Skype on the go for international suppliers and business contacts.

I never leave home without my laptop. It is the nerve centre of my business. Invoices and quotes are compiled on this genius invention and I am also able to introduce potential customers to products regardless of my location.

My little vanity kit contains my NYX Matte Lip Cream or Tinted Lip Balm and also my business card holder as every new person I meet is potentially someone to network with.

We all need to feel confident, secure and comfortable. Most of us arrive at that feeling with the aid of the people and things in our lives. The things I have mentioned give me this feeling. And while it is possible to make it through a day without maybe one item, they definitely make getting through the day easier and less stressful. And who doesn't want less stress?
