Rihanna steals the show in huge ruffles

at party to celebrate the Grammy Awards

Monday, February 01, 2010

If Rihanna wanted to appear a strong and confident woman at this year's pre-Grammys party, she certainly succeeded on Saturday night.

It was after last year's event that she had the infamous argument with then boyfriend Chris Brown, which ended with her beaten black and blue -- and him facing five years of probation and a year of counselling.

But at this year's event, Rihanna attended alone and stole the night in a show-stopping ruffled dress and quiffed hairdo.

The dramatic cocktail dress from the Viktor & Rolf Spring 2010 collection had a large puff over her left shoulder in mint green and ruffles in pink, grey and black. The one-shouldered mini looked stunning on the red carpet with pink satin heels, and mint green nail varnish.

But it looked a little impractical for the rest of the evening, and Rihanna looked swamped by the huge shoulder ruffle as she chatted to fellow celebrities and sat down to dinner with Katy Perry and Russell Brand.

Rihanna, 21, was at the Pre-Grammy's Gala on Saturday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles which was hosted by The Recording Academy and music supremo Clive Davis.

The event was a warm-up for tonight's 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, where Rihanna is up for best rap/song collaboration for Run This Town with Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Mary J Blige lets rip at her band at the pre-Grammys

The old guard and the new guard of Hollywood movies and rock 'n' roll were gathered for the annual pre-Grammy party hosted by music industry mogul Clive Davis.

The evening saw Mary J Blige publicly humiliate her band in front of an audience that included recording industry titans and some of the biggest names in rock. The singer lost her cool as, ironically, she was about to sing a song titled No More Drama.

As the band struck up the number's intro, she told the musicians to stop, waved her arms angrily and demanded: "Can we get the right music for Mary J Blige?"

She added: "Are we practicing still?"

The audience stared at her in disbelief as it is not considered the done thing to criticise your band -- all top- of-the-line professionals -- at such an event.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie step out together at Directors Guild of America Awards

They were rumoured to have consulted lawyers over custody of their six children and dividing their £205- million fortune.

But on Saturday night, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie proved they were still very much an item as they attended the Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles.

While declining to pose together on the red carpet at the star-studded bash, the couple were seen being 'extremely affectionate' as they mingled with their peers.

Pitt had been invited to the ceremony to present his Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino with a plaque for being nominated for the Outstanding Directional Achievement in Feature Film, which was won by Kathryn Bigelow.

Jolie wasn't expected to join Pitt, but perhaps recent speculation about their relationship prompted her to attend the event at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.

Brittany Murphy's husband hits back at 'absurd' rumours

Brittany Murphy's husband has reacted angrily to rumours spread since her death saying, 'We were planning a family, so why would I kill her?'

British screenwriter Simon Monjack said a lot of unkind things have been said about him since the Clueless star's death, most of which was "ridiculous". "It's just so absurd. Why would I kill my wife?" he told the Sunday Mirror.

Mr Monjack is suing Warner Brothers over the Clueless star's death, claiming they 'broke her heart'. Brittany, 32, died on December 20 after collapsing in the shower at the Hollywood home the couple shared with her mother Sharon.
