Name: Daisy Fay Thomas-Bradshaw
Place of Birth: Jamaica
Occupation: Operations Manager, Betsey Johnson LLC
Daisy Fay Thomas-Bradshaw, hailing from the quiet village of Hopewell, in Woodside, St Mary, has for the last 15 years been a cornerstone of the operations of global fashion brand Betsey Johnson. Indeed, Bradshaw has been the right-hand colleague and confidante of the fashion designer, who at age 69, still does her signature cartwheel on the catwalk to close her show. Bradshaw was born Daisy Thomas to carpenter Aldon Thomas and his wife Roslyn. At age 11, she left St Mary and Marymount High for Kingston, where she continued her secondary studies at St Hugh's High School.
At age 19, Thomas migrated to the United States. She was married on June 26, 1970, at the age of 20, to Herbert Bradshaw. Her early days in the US were spent aspiring to become an attorney, for which she studied, along with accounting. She later opted not to complete law school, and instead went on to complete accounting levels I and II and raise a family — sons Garth Bradshaw, Herbert Bradshaw, Jnr and Moses Asvara, whom she adopted.
Thomas also figured in the abolition of apartheid in South Africa, having worked with the United Nations for eight years — specifically to end apartheid — by becoming involved with, among other things, fund-raisers and networking. She was then offered a job with the State Department in Washington, DC, which she declined, for family reasons.
Bradshaw's entrance into the fashion industry began with her job as an accountant at Shalor Designs Inc. With a drive to understand the industry, Bradshaw ensured she learned the operations of the production, design and manufacturing aspects of the fashion business. She continued her quest for knowledge while working with private label Richard Malcolm, and high-end label Anne Klein as an accountant, before she was highly recommended to Betsey Johnson, who didn't think twice to hire her.
Included in her very busy schedule was the development of the most recent Betsey Johnson fragrance Too Too. She is also working with Johnson on the collection for the upcoming New York Fashion Week, and told SO to "expect bold colours and high energy come September at the Lincoln Center". Bradshaw is also working with Johnson on the fashion reality show Betsey and Lulu, which features Johnson's daughter Lulu, as well as fine-tuning plans for a fabulous 70s-themed 70th birthday celebration for Johnson, slated for August 10.
