Top UK hairstylist Terry Jacques, a member of the Hall of Fame of British Hairdressing and a judge of the British Hairdressing Awards, traces his roots to Jamaica where both his parents were born and credits his mum Ivy Harriett for his hairdressing skills. "She'd ask me to style her wigs, and I would enjoy every minute of it...little did I know that this would be my career path." Indeed, his mum, who passed suddenly when he was 15 years old, actually gave him his very own survival tools, for after honing his skills at the London College of Fashion where he studied hairdressing he opened his first salon at Clapham, South London in 1990 and his second soon after at Lancaster Gate.

A brush with death which left him in a coma and doctors giving him a week to live, forced Jacques to not only rethink his career path but to focus on his loyal customer base. This he does from his well-appointed hair studio on the first floor of the swanky Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge.

A proud Jamaican, Jacques, whose client list boasts the who's who in film, entertainment and industry, is a frequent visitor to The Rock where he catches up with family in Kingston and Old Harbour and recharges his batteries in Negril. (Photos: Garfield Robinson)

Terry Jacques' Hair Studio is located on the first floor at 59 Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge, SW3 INZ.
