In Hollywood the true test of your talent often comes from versatility in different crafts. Many a model, actor and musician has tried to become the best crossover act in the business. This week Saturday Hustle shares a few of Hollywood's finest who have mastered their crossovers over the past 20 years.

Jennifer Lopez

Lopez got her start in the entertainment industry as a fly girl (dancer) on In Living Colour. In 2001, The Wedding Planner was the top-grossing film, while her album, J.Lo, was number one on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. The two simultaneous honours made Lopez the first woman to have a number one movie and album in the same week. Her single Love Don't Cost A Thing from the album J.Lo peaked at number one on the Billboard Pop and Radio Songs charts.

Jennifer Hudson

Best Known Song:

And I am telling you I'm not going/ You're the best man I'll ever know/ There's no way I can ever go/ No, no, no, no way/ No, no, no, no way I'm livin' without you.

We first met Hudson as an American Idol hopeful in 2004. Little did we know that her debut-acting role as Effie in Dream Girls would be the platform to launch her into superstardom. Her vocals on And I'm Telling You, I'm Not Going as well as her incredible performance got her an Oscar and a Grammy (even before she released her debut album).

Zooey Deschanel

Best Known Song:

It's okay (It's okay) We all get the slip sometimes every day I'll just keep it to myself In the sun

Actress Zooey Deschanel, known best for her role on the sitcom The New Girl, is also the lead vocalist of an Indie band She and Him. The band's first album, Volume One, was released on Merge Records in March 2008. Their hit single In the Sun peaked at number four on the US singles charts.

Best Known Song:

If at first you don't succeed/ Dust yourself off and try again/ You can dust it off and try again/

The late Aaliyah Haughton was an American singer and model who began making her mark as an actress before her untimely passing in 2001. Haughton landed lead roles in the movies Queen of the Damned and Romeo Must Die. Her song Try Again from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 2000 as well as their Radio Songs chart.

Best Known Song:

And I say the same thing every single time/ I say you da best/ you da best/ The best I ever had/

Best known for his role as Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian teen drama Degrassi, Aubrey Drake Graham took the hip-hop world by storm after leaving the show. Now signed to Young Money, which includes the likes of Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne, Drake has proven to the industry that he is here to stay. Arguably, his most popular song to date was his first hit Best I Ever Had. The song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and number 1 on Billboard R&B/ Hip Hop Songs chart in 2009.
